Overview
- INDEC, which released April basket data Thursday, reported the poverty basket (CBT) up 2.5% and the food basket (CBA) up 1.1%, both under the 2.6% CPI as food prices rose 1.5%.
- A typical four-person household needed ARS 1,469,768 to avoid poverty and ARS 665,053 to cover basic food needs.
- For one adult, the poverty threshold was ARS 475,653 and the indigence line was ARS 215,228, which define the minimum incomes for total needs versus food only.
- Both baskets increased 32.4% over the past year, with January–April gains of 12.3% for the CBT and 12.8% for the CBA.
- Regional data show lower absolute thresholds in Mendoza, where the CBT was ARS 1,361,504 and the CBA ARS 569,667, and INDEC’s canastas do not include rent so many households face higher actual costs.
