Argentina Posts Sharp Export Surge to U.S. Led by Beef, Oil and Minerals

A U.S. beef quota increase and targeted trade missions unlocked demand that drove record exports to the United States.

Overview

  • PromArgentina reported that May exports to the United States reached US$878 million, pushing bilateral trade to US$1.383 billion for the month and leaving Argentina with a US$373 million surplus.
  • Beef shipments to the U.S. jumped to about 11,000–11,100 tonnes in May, generating roughly US$86 million and a year‑on‑year rise near 369%, while crude oil and stones/metals also posted large monthly gains.
  • The May surge helped lift January–May bilateral trade to US$3.981 billion, a 46.6% increase from 2025 and a record for that period, with crude oil and precious stones major contributors to the yearly totals.
  • Officials and PromArgentina credit the early‑February U.S. quota expansion (from 20,000 to 100,000 tonnes) and the late‑April/early‑May 'Semana de la Carne' mission for opening market access and generating more than 200 commercial contacts.
  • The export boom has prompted PromArgentina to expand its promotion model with Argentina B2B Week and a planned September repeat of the meat mission while industry groups warn falling domestic beef consumption and herd limits could constrain supply and raise local prices.
