Overview
- The NGO MuMaLá counted 73 femicides across Argentina in the first quarter of 2026, equal to about one killing every 29 hours.
- MuMaLá reported that only 9.5% of victims had previously filed complaints, and about half of those had active restraining orders that failed to stop the attacker.
- A separate tracker from La Casa del Encuentro logged 68 fatal victims of gender violence in the same period, including 61 femicides, and said 80 children lost their mothers.
- Spain’s judicial observatory said 49 women were killed by gender violence in 2025 and found the highest incidence in towns of 10,000 to 25,000 residents.
- Observatory chair Esther Rojo warned that fixed-distance restraining orders are unworkable in many small communities and said a new guide is in development to improve rural support and early detection through primary care.
