Argentina Issues Yellow Storm Alert as Mexico Watches Likely Tropical Development

National weather agencies warn heavy rains and strong winds could cause flooding and landslides and advise people to follow official updates.

Overview

  • Argentina's Servicio Meteorológico Nacional issued a yellow alert for storms and rains covering ten provinces on Sunday, warning of locally strong storms, frequent lightning, hail and wind gusts with 30–70 mm rainfall expected in spots.
  • Mexico's Conagua and the SMN flagged a low-pressure area south of Guerrero with a high probability of tropical cyclone formation and forecast torrential rainfall of 150–250 mm on parts of the Guerrero coast.
  • The Mexican forecast maps show heavy to very heavy rains across wide areas including Michoacán, Puebla, Oaxaca and Chiapas with risks of flash floods, river rises and landslides in vulnerable terrain.
  • Local forecasts in Galicia based on AEMET data predict early-morning fog and light rain in Pontevedra towns followed by clearing and afternoon highs near 20–23°C with gusts up to about 40–48 km/h.
  • Agencies advise practical precautions such as avoiding unnecessary travel, securing loose objects, clearing drains and monitoring updates because alerts can change quickly and heavy rains may disrupt daily life and infrastructure.
