Argentina Formalizes Acceptance of Foreign Certifications for Low-Risk Imports

The new regime begins in 60 days following a 30‑day update period for public agencies.

Overview

  • Decree 892/2025 recognizes technical and quality certifications from Australia, the United States, the United Kingdom, the European Union, EFTA members, Israel and Japan for eligible goods.
  • Coverage focuses on low-risk ANMAT categories such as Class I/II medical devices, cosmetics, personal hygiene, perfumes, household products and in vitro diagnostics without cold chain, plus certain SENASA fitosanitary and veterinary products that require a sworn declaration.
  • Weapons, explosives and hazardous chemicals, used or refurbished goods, foods regulated by the Argentine Food Code, medicines, fertilizers, unprocessed primary agricultural products and items under special legal regimes are explicitly excluded.
  • Compliance may be shown via approval in a reference country or through certificates from recognized certifying bodies and test reports from accredited laboratories, with the Industry and Trade Secretariat authorized to define validation methods and update reference lists.
  • Customs authorities through ARCA/DGA will continue risk-based selectivity controls, and the framework preserves administrative and criminal penalties for false or noncompliant documentation with involvement from ANMAT, SENASA and consumer-protection bodies.
