Argentina Extends Rule Letting Seasonal Farm Workers Keep Benefits in Formal Jobs

Officials say the policy has moved more than 120,000 rural workers into registered employment.

Overview

  • The government published Decree 777/2025 in the Official Gazette, signed by President Javier Milei, Chief of Cabinet Guillermo Francos and Human Capital Minister Sandra Pettovello.
  • The measure renews Decree 514/2021 for one year starting September 1, 2025, maintaining compatibility between temporary rural employment and social programs.
  • The framework guarantees family allowance payments for eligible workers at no less than 100% of the value of the Universal Child Allowance.
  • The extension followed a formal request from UATRE and RENATRE leader José Voytenco and broad backing from regional producers and business groups.
  • Separately, RENATRE issued Resolution 114/2025 to update extraordinary benefits from November 1, 2025, as unions also flag ongoing low pay and precarious conditions.
