Overview
- The government published Decree 475/2026 in the Boletín Oficial on Thursday, June 18, 2026, and the changes apply to transactions perfected from that date.
- Proveedores de Servicios de Activos Virtuales (PSAV) are now eligible for exemptions when they use accounts exclusively for their activity and register with the Comisión Nacional de Valores and ARCA.
- The measure also clarifies exemptions for electronic payment and collections platforms, card-system operators and cash-in-transit firms provided their accounts are exclusive to those activities and the firms register with ARCA or the BCRA as required.
- Industry groups and several firms hailed the move as tax parity and regulatory recognition, while analysts say lower operating taxes could cut firms’ costs but any reduction in user fees will depend on companies’ pricing decisions.
- The change updates a long-standing regime: the impuesto al cheque is one of Argentina’s largest transactional taxes and the decree reverses a 2021 rule that had excluded crypto operations, while keeping administrative and compliance conditions that limit immediate consumer impact.
