Argentina Auto Registrations Fall 4.9% in January to 66,080

Dealers forecast roughly 640,000 registrations in 2026, contingent on cheaper credit plus fiscal support.

Overview

  • Registrations jumped 174.4% from December’s low base, reflecting a typical seasonal rebound rather than a structural surge.
  • ACARA’s Sebastián Beato said activity was essentially in line with last January despite one fewer business day, calling it one of the best Januaries in eight years.
  • Passenger cars totaled 44,712, down 4.2% year over year, light commercials reached 18,037, down 8%, while heavy vehicles recorded 2,313, down 1.7%.
  • Volkswagen led brands with 9,785 registrations, followed by Fiat with 8,451 and Toyota with 7,509, as Toyota Hilux topped models ahead of Fiat Cronos and Peugeot 208.
  • Buenos Aires province accounted for 28.4% of January registrations with 18,797 units, highlighting geographic concentration alongside uneven provincial trends such as Jujuy’s 51% car growth in 2025.
