APSP Constable Found Dead After Alleged Jump From Godavari Bridge

Authorities have opened an investigation to examine family allegations of harassment after his body was recovered.

Overview

  • Police identified the deceased as 31-year-old constable Chandramalla Vamsi and say he is believed to have jumped from a bridge into the Godavari River.
  • State Disaster Response Force teams carried out an extensive search and recovered the body, which was taken to the Government Hospital in Rajamahendravaram for a post-mortem.
  • Family members say Vamsi faced repeated departmental counselling over a complaint by a female colleague and that his bike and footwear were found on the bridge.
  • Following a complaint by the family, police have registered a case and say they are examining all angles while investigators review the complaint filed at the Women's Police Station.
  • Vamsi served in the APSP third battalion in Kakinada and his family, who were preparing for his engagement, say they want a full probe; authorities have not yet substantiated the harassment allegations.
