Overview
- Starting with iOS 26.4, Stolen Device Protection is automatically enabled for all iPhones, replacing the prior opt-in setup.
- The feature requires Face ID or Touch ID with no passcode fallback to access sensitive items such as saved passwords, Safari payment methods, Apple Card details, Lost Mode, device erase, select Apple Cash or Savings actions, and iPhone-to-iPhone setup.
- High-impact account or device changes trigger a one-hour security delay and two biometric authentications, including changing the Apple ID password or iPhone passcode, managing trusted devices or numbers, altering Face ID or Touch ID, or turning off Find My or the protection itself.
- Users can disable the protection, and security delays are lifted in familiar locations like home or work to reduce friction.
- The change is available to developers now, with a public beta expected soon and general availability targeted for the spring.
