Apple to Redesign AirPods Settings in iOS 27, Not Ship a Companion App

Designed to simplify controls scattered by years of added AirPods features, the revamp is expected to be shown at WWDC on June 8, 2026.

Overview

  • Bloomberg reported on May 24 that Apple is rebuilding the AirPods settings interface across iOS 27, iPadOS 27 and macOS 27 and will keep controls inside the Settings app instead of releasing a standalone AirPods app.
  • The redesign is meant to create a single, clearer control panel by moving options that are now spread across Bluetooth and accessibility menus into one organized layout.
  • Apple has added many features to AirPods in recent years, including head‑gesture controls, adaptive audio, hearing‑aid support, personalized spatial audio, heart‑rate sensing and Live Translation, and those additions have made the current settings screen feel cluttered.
  • For users the change should improve discoverability because the existing AirPods panel appears at the top of Settings when a pair is connected but contains many buried toggles and sections.
  • The report is based on Mark Gurman’s reporting and remains unconfirmed until Apple’s WWDC keynote on June 8, 2026, when the company is expected to show iOS 27 and the new settings design.
