- Apple has told Meta it will build an API to let accessories reuse a pairing across a user’s iPhones and iPads, with development expected to finish by spring 2027 and shipping shortly afterward.
- The system will share cryptographic session keys with third-party apps and require a one-time, per-accessory user consent to secure reuse of a pairing.
- Apple plans to deliver the feature via AccessorySetupKit and Proximity Pairing, the EU-only infrastructure it built to meet Digital Markets Act rules.
- Meta filed its interoperability request on October 31, 2025 asking for AirPods-like syncing for Ray-Ban Meta glasses and Quest headsets, and it objects that forcing ASK would require abandoning its Core Bluetooth pairing used outside Europe.
