Apple Ships Siri AI in iOS 27 as watchOS 27 Drops Several Recent Apple Watch Models

Regulatory objections in the EU will block Siri AI at launch.

Overview

  • Apple announced iOS 27 and watchOS 27 at WWDC on Monday, introducing a new Siri AI assistant plus system-wide AI photo, camera and performance upgrades.
  • watchOS 27 will only run on Apple Watch Series 10, Series 11, Ultra 2, Ultra 3 and SE 3, leaving out Series 9, the first Ultra and SE 2 and marking an unusually large support cut for the Watch.
  • Apple said Siri AI will be English-only at rollout and will not initially be available in the EU because regulators’ interpretation of the Digital Markets Act would require data access that Apple says conflicts with its private‑cloud model.
  • Developer betas for iOS 27 and watchOS 27 are available now, a public beta is planned for July and final releases are scheduled for autumn 2026; Apple confirmed iOS 27 will support the same iPhones as iOS 26, including iPhone 11.
  • Owners of excluded watches will keep current watchOS versions but will miss new health, workout and Siri features and may need to upgrade hardware, while the EU standoff could delay wider Siri AI availability and shape how Apple handles cloud data access.
