Apple Sets iOS 27 Public Launch for Sept. 14 With New Siri AI

A conversational Siri uses Apple Intelligence powered by Google’s Gemini models, with availability limited to newer devices and excluding the EU at launch.

Overview

  • Apple seeded the iOS 27 release candidate to developers and public beta testers and confirmed a staged public rollout starting Monday, September 14.
  • The base iOS 27 build supports the same iPhones as iOS 26, meaning iPhone 11 and newer can install the update.
  • The headline feature is a redesigned Siri that uses Apple Intelligence and Google’s Gemini models to offer chat‑style conversation, a dedicated Siri app, Visual Intelligence in Camera, and systemwide ‘Write with Siri’ text tools.
  • Key AI features require newer hardware—Apple lists iPhone 15 Pro/15 Pro Max and all iPhone 16 models or later for many capabilities—and some features will be regionally restricted, with the EU excluded at launch.
  • Beyond AI, iOS 27 brings performance and UX changes such as a Liquid Glass appearance slider, Photos tools like Spatial Reframing and Extend, faster app launches and AirDrop, and Apple issued iOS 26.6.2 on Sept. 8 to fix a cellular update bug ahead of the upgrade.
