Apple Seeds Developer Beta 9A5336b for Multiple AirPods Models

The build readies AirPods for iOS 27 features and signals a public beta and wider release are imminent.

Overview

  • Apple released developer beta firmware build 9A5336b for AirPods Pro 2, AirPods Pro 3, AirPods 4, and AirPods Max 2, with the seed appearing on Tuesday, August 4.
  • The firmware adds support for iOS 27 AirPods features including a redesigned AirPods interface, an Adaptive mode slider, a custom EQ setting, and compatibility with the new Siri AI.
  • A public beta of the firmware is expected to arrive in the coming days and Apple plans to deliver the features to all users when iOS 27 ships, which is currently expected in September.
  • Installing the beta requires a host device running iOS 26, iPadOS 26, or macOS 26 or later and typically completes automatically while the AirPods charge, a process that can take several hours.
  • Apple has simplified beta enrollment by moving the opt-in to the AirPods settings on host devices so firmware releases install in the background instead of requiring Xcode and a Mac.
