Apple Rushes iOS 26.5.2 Security Update to Close Dozens of Flaws

Apple said rising AI tools that speed exploit development pushed it to move fixes from the 26.6 beta into an urgent 26.5.2 release.

Overview

  • Apple released iOS 26.5.2, iPadOS 26.5.2 and macOS 26.5.2 on Monday, June 29, as security-only updates that bring beta fixes to the stable channel.
  • The updates fix roughly 29 to 37 vulnerabilities depending on component, with the largest share affecting WebKit, and additional defects in the kernel, WebRTC, libxslt and Web Extensions.
  • Apple told Reuters it accelerated the release because powerful AI tools can speed the development of malicious exploits, and the company says it has found no evidence the patched flaws were exploited in the wild.
  • Apple’s advisories note that some defects were reported with help from AI-assisted research and by teams linked to Anthropic and OpenAI, which shortened the time between disclosure and patching.
  • Users with supported devices, generally iPhone 11 and newer, should install the update via Settings > General > Software Update or by using IPSW files, and expect Apple to balance faster patches against update fatigue and the risk of regressions.
