Overview
- Apple seeded the sixth developer betas for iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS Golden Gate, tvOS 27, watchOS 27, visionOS 27, and HomePod Software 27 on Monday, August 17, and released the fourth public betas for broader testing.
- Beta 6 is focused largely on under‑the‑hood performance improvements and bug fixes rather than new features as Apple has tightened its weekly release cadence to prepare for a probable September release.
- On August 17–18 Apple also pushed iOS/iPadOS 26.6.1 and macOS Tahoe 26.6.2, backporting roughly 29–30 security fixes that were first added to the 27‑series betas and covering WebKit, kernel, audio, ImageIO, and telephony issues.
- Nine WebKit CVEs credited to OpenAI Codex Security and many other fixes reflect the growing use of AI in vulnerability discovery, and Apple says none of the newly disclosed flaws are known to have been exploited in the wild but recommends prompt updating.
- Users should install the security updates on primary devices and run developer betas only on secondary hardware because some iOS 27 features like Siri AI and advanced Apple Intelligence capabilities are limited to newer Apple silicon or higher iCloud+ tiers.
