Overview
- Meta formally asked Apple on October 31, 2025 to let a Meta device paired with one iPhone or iPad automatically become available on a user’s other Apple devices.
- Apple told Meta on February 4, 2026 that it will build an API that shares cryptographic pairing materials, protected by a session key and one-time user consent, to enable the AirPods-style sync.
- The feature depends on Apple’s AccessorySetupKit and proximity pairing systems that currently work only in the EU, and Apple says it plans to finish development by spring 2027 and ship the capability soon after.
- Meta accepts the core functionality but objects to Apple tying access to ASK because that would force Meta to stop using its Core Bluetooth pairing logic outside Europe and rework its global systems.
- The interoperability request is in phase three of Apple’s portal and Meta has not started formal DMA dispute resolution, a move that would trigger a 30-working-day review by Apple’s Interoperability Request Review Board.
