Apple Moves 27.2 Updates Into Release Candidates Across Its Platforms

The RCs point to a public rollout before the end of October and keep iPhone Duo changes isolated on a separate 27.1 branch.

Overview

  • Apple seeded release-candidate builds for iOS, iPadOS, macOS Golden Gate, watchOS, tvOS, visionOS and HomePod on Monday, Oct. 19, marking the final test stage before a public release.
  • Release-candidate builds are intended to match the final shipping software unless testing uncovers problems that force a second RC or a minor fix.
  • The 27.2 RCs surface several user-facing changes including Messages suggested actions, Apple TV profiles on iPad, an Apple Music icon and design refresh, an overhauled Podcasts Up Next queue, an iPad Siri contextual popup, Home automations for compatible smart locks, and expanded Siri AI support in French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish.
  • Features that appeared in earlier betas have shifted: the redesigned iOS 27 Health app was removed from the 27.2 RC and is slated to arrive in a later update, and macOS 27.2 adds new brightness and volume sliders plus touch-gesture tools that may prep for future touchscreen Macs.
  • Build numbers for the first RCs are available to developers and testers and Apple is expected to issue the public 27.2 updates by the end of October, with timing dependent on whether RC testing requires any follow-up fixes.
