Apple Is Testing a Simplified 'Modular Ultra' Watch Face for watchOS 27

The reported design would bring the Ultra look to more Apple Watch models by prioritizing a big, easy-to-read clock.

Overview

  • Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, in his Sunday newsletter, said Apple is testing new watch faces for watchOS 27 under the codename Orchid.
  • One face is a pared-back take on Modular Ultra that targets standard Series watches rather than only the larger Ultra models.
  • The layout keeps a large digital clock that fills the top two-thirds of the screen and leaves three small complications along the bottom.
  • Apple has removed the big center complication, the trio of small slots above the time, and the bezel data to cut visual clutter.
  • Gurman also reported watchOS 26.5 is due soon with a new Pride Luminance face, while Apple is expected to show watchOS 27 at WWDC in June.
