Overview
- Support for the original HomeKit architecture ended on February 10, with Apple warning that some homes may be upgraded automatically after the deadline.
- Access to updated homes now requires at least iOS 16.2, iPadOS 16.2, macOS 13.1, tvOS 16.2, or watchOS 9.2 on every controlling device, including invited members.
- iPads no longer function as home hubs, so a HomePod or Apple TV is required to handle remote control, automations, and notifications.
- Some users who did not update are finding the Home app disabled with an “Update now” prompt, and functionality returns after completing the in‑app migration.
- The rebuilt platform promises improved reliability and adds Matter support, guest access, Activity History, and robot vacuum integration.
