Overview
- Apple confirmed in its WWDC previews that iPadOS 27, watchOS 27, macOS 27 Golden Gate and tvOS 27 will exclude a total of 16 older models from major updates.
- watchOS 27 drops five models that lack S9/S10‑class silicon, including the Series 6, Series 7, Series 8, the first Apple Watch Ultra and the second‑generation SE.
- iPadOS 27 raises the minimum processor to the A14 Bionic or newer, removing support for five tablets such as the iPad Air 3, the 2018 iPad Pro models, the iPad (8th gen) and the iPad mini 5.
- macOS 27 Golden Gate will support only Apple Silicon, ending updates for the remaining Intel Macs on Apple’s list, and tvOS 27 excludes the 2015 Apple TV HD and the 2017 first‑gen Apple TV 4K.
- Affected devices will keep basic functions and likely receive security fixes for a limited time, but users will lose access to the newest features and may face earlier upgrade or resale decisions as the new OS releases roll out later this year.
