Apple Consolidates Sign In With Apple and Hide My Email on private.icloud.com

Due later this summer, the backend change will require developers and email providers to update systems, making anonymized addresses easier for sites to detect.

Overview

  • Apple announced in a developer notice on Monday, June 15 that new relay addresses for Sign in with Apple and iCloud+ Hide My Email will be issued on private.icloud.com.
  • Apple says existing aliases on privaterelay.appleid.com and icloud.com will continue to forward mail and keep working after the switch.
  • Developers must update account validation, allowlists and signup logic while email providers must change domain-based filtering, suppression lists and routing rules before the rollout.
  • Security reporters and privacy advocates warn the new private.icloud.com subdomain creates a clear technical marker that could let apps and websites detect and block anonymized Hide My Email aliases.
  • The move standardizes Apple’s relay infrastructure and may sharpen a trade-off between platform anti-abuse controls and user anonymity, a debate that observers say Apple has not publicly explained.
