Apple Consolidates Sign in With Apple and Hide My Email Addresses on Private.icloud.com

The change will standardize Apple’s relay addresses, preserve existing forwarding, and require developers and mail operators to update validation and allowlists before a rollout later this summer.

Overview

  • Apple announced that new masked email addresses for Sign in with Apple and iCloud+ Hide My Email will be issued on a single private.icloud.com domain.
  • Existing addresses on the legacy privaterelay.appleid.com and icloud.com domains will keep forwarding mail to users with no action required.
  • Apple gave no exact date, saying the switch will take place “later this summer” and pointing developers to its Developer blog for details.
  • Developers must update account systems, email validation logic, and allowlists, and email providers must revise domain-based filtering, suppression lists, and routing rules to accept private.icloud.com.
  • Apple says the consolidation should simplify address handling and reduce cross-service inconsistency but could disrupt deliveries if third parties or filters fail to update before the rollout.
