App-Based Therapy Shows Early Gains for Premature Ejaculation in 12-Week Study

Experts say the early results are promising pending larger controlled trials.

Overview

  • A German-led Climacs program enrolled 80 men without reported underlying conditions, with 66 completing stopwatch measures and questionnaires over 12 weeks.
  • Participants using the Melonga app doubled average time to ejaculation from 61 to 125 seconds, while nonusers saw an average increase of about 0.5 seconds.
  • At 12 weeks, 22% of app users reported no longer experiencing premature ejaculation.
  • Results were presented at the European Association of Urology congress in London, where urologists endorsed the non-pharmacological approach and called for partner-reported outcomes in larger, controlled studies.
  • The app delivers cognitive behavioral strategies and physical exercises developed by urologists and psychologists and is available in Ireland, Germany, Austria, Luxembourg, Liechtenstein and Belgium.
