Anvisa Halts Sale and Use of Three Aptamil Infant Formula Lots Over Detected Toxin

The move follows Danone tests detecting the Bacillus cereus toxin cereulide in prepared formula.

Overview

  • Anvisa formalized the measure in Resolução-RE No. 1,056 published in the Diário Oficial da União, ordering immediate suspension of commercialization, distribution and use.
  • The action targets Aptamil Premium 1 (800 g) lots 2026.09.09 (mfg 10/03/2025), 2026.10.03 (mfg 03/04/2025) and 2026.09.07 (mfg 08/03/2025), which must be removed from the market.
  • Parents and caregivers are told to stop using products from these lots, verify the lot code on the package, and contact Danone’s customer service for exchanges or returns.
  • Anvisa says cereulide exposure can cause persistent vomiting, diarrhea and lethargy, posing particular risk to infants up to six months of age.
  • The agency reports no confirmed intoxication cases linked to the recalled lots to date and warns retailers that failure to remove them may constitute a sanitary infraction; other lots remain unaffected.
