Anthropic Taps SpaceX for 300 MW at Memphis Data Center to Scale Claude

The supply deal gives Anthropic the power and chips needed to ease Claude bottlenecks.

Overview

  • Anthropic struck an infrastructure agreement with SpaceX that grants access to 300 megawatts at the Colossus 1 data center in Memphis to expand compute for its Claude AI tools.
  • The Memphis site is expected to house more than 220,000 Nvidia chips by the end of the month, reflecting the scramble for GPU capacity that trains and runs large AI models.
  • Anthropic says the added capacity will let it raise usage limits for developers using Claude Code and the Claude API, which have faced processing limits during peak demand.
  • Financial terms were not disclosed, and market estimates suggest the arrangement could generate hundreds of millions of dollars a year for SpaceX’s xAI unit, which merged into SpaceX in February.
  • The Information reports a separate five‑year, $200 billion Google Cloud pact that would add TPU capacity from 2027, showing Anthropic is spreading suppliers as SpaceX builds out data hubs in Tennessee and Mississippi.
