Anthropic Launches Claude Tag as Persistent AI Teammate in Slack

The beta embeds a single, shared Claude per channel that can act autonomously while administrators control access, token spend and audit logs.

Overview

  • Anthropic rolled out Claude Tag in a beta research preview on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, replacing its prior Slack app and opening the feature to Claude Enterprise and Team customers.
  • Each Slack channel gets one persistent Claude identity that builds memory and shared context so team members can pick up work where others left off.
  • Claude Tag can decompose tasks, run long‑running jobs, use connected tools and data, and—if ambient mode is enabled—proactively follow up or surface relevant information.
  • Administrators set per‑channel permissions, connect or restrict tool and data access, impose token and spend limits, and review audit logs of Claude’s actions to manage security and costs.
  • Anthropic says it already uses Claude Tag internally at scale and plans to extend the feature beyond Slack in the coming weeks, positioning the product against Big Tech workplace AI offerings.
