Anthropic Extends Free Claude Fable 5 Access for Paid Plans to July 19

It delays a shift to costly prepaid token pricing for many subscribers.

Overview

  • Anthropic confirmed Monday that it has extended included access to Claude Fable 5 for paid subscribers through July 19, 2026 and preserved a 50% weekly allowance at no extra charge.
  • The extension applies to Pro, Max, Team and premium seat‑based Enterprise plans where enabled and does not cover Free accounts, standard Enterprise seats, usage‑based Enterprise plans or API access.
  • Starting July 20, any Fable 5 usage beyond included allowances is slated to run on prepaid credits priced at $10 per million input tokens and $50 per million output tokens.
  • Anthropic says the pause in full subscription access reflects constrained compute capacity and warns that Fable 5 consumes weekly tokens faster than other Claude models, which helps explain the temporary 50% cap and move to meter the model.
  • The repeated, short‑notice extensions have frustrated some subscribers and drawn industry attention because they overlap OpenAI’s recent GPT‑5.6 release and could keep developers testing Fable 5 while the company shifts toward metered pricing.
