Anthropic Brings Claude Into Google Docs, Sheets and Slides

The public beta embeds Claude inside Workspace to let paid users edit files in place under existing Google sharing controls.

Overview

  • This week Anthropic began a public beta rollout that makes Claude available as a sidebar add‑on in Google Docs, Sheets and Slides for subscribers on paid Claude plans.
  • The sidebar reads selected text, cells or slides and can propose or apply edits in Docs without breaking formatting, with larger changes shown as approval cards by default.
  • In Sheets Claude can write native formulas, build pivots and charts, add tabs and move selected ranges into a Python environment for joins or cleaning before writing results back into the sheet.
  • Beta Drive connectors let users create or edit Drive files from the Claude chat while honoring existing Google sharing permissions, and Team or Enterprise owners must enable connectors for members.
  • The release positions Anthropic as a paid alternative inside Google Workspace that competes with Google’s own Workspace AI and Microsoft Copilot and gives admins domain deployment controls that limit who can use the integration.
