Overview
- Volunteer searchers in Sonora said an anonymous caller led them to the Mariposa area near Nogales on Wednesday and that their initial searches did not locate remains linked to Nancy Guthrie.
- The Pima County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI said they learned of the Mexico search through media reports and that Mexican authorities have not formally contacted them about the tip.
- Investigators treating Guthrie’s February 1 disappearance as an abduction have recovered blood drops, torn doorbell equipment and doorbell-camera footage of a masked person and have sent DNA and hair samples to labs including the FBI in Quantico.
- Pima County issued an alert earlier this week for Coral Michelle Smith in a May 29 kidnapping near Guthrie’s neighborhood but the sheriff’s office says that case is not connected to Guthrie’s disappearance.
- Volunteer groups have previously found numerous unmarked graves in the border region, and officials say the next key steps are formal cross‑border coordination and lab results that could either validate or rule out the Mexico lead.
