Overview
- The peak occurs at 13:12 Italian time, with the annular phase lasting roughly two minutes.
- Outside Antarctica, only a partial eclipse will be seen from the southern tip of South America, southeastern Africa and Madagascar, and across parts of the southern Pacific, Atlantic and Indian, and it will not be visible from Italy.
- The Moon is near apogee, making its apparent disk smaller than the Sun and producing the annular “ring of fire.”
- Viewing requires certified eclipse glasses or dedicated solar filters, as unprotected observation can cause permanent eye damage.
- Teams are also preparing for the total solar eclipse on 12 August 2026, which will not be viewable from Italy and may be difficult to observe from Iceland and Spain.
