Overview
- The Animal Humane Society responded to a neighbor’s report and removed 71 cats and kittens from an abandoned home in Sibley County.
- Rescuers found dangerously high ammonia levels, no access to water, piles of trash, rotting furniture and walls, and many animals that were skinny with respiratory infections and open wounds.
- All cats were brought to AHS facilities for triage where each will receive medical and behavioral evaluations before any placement decisions.
- AHS says every cat will need spaying or neutering, vaccinations and special medical care, and the organization says it is the only group in Minnesota with the resources to handle a case this large.
- The group is asking the public for donations to cover treatment costs and notes that hoarding rescues require isolation, extensive veterinary care and long-term rehabilitation before animals can be rehomed.
