Angels Reinstate Yusei Kikuchi From 60-Day Injured List

The left-hander’s return adds veteran rotation depth and gives the club a chance he can resume a top-two starter role after recovering from shoulder inflammation.

Overview

  • The Angels activated Yusei Kikuchi and had him start against the Texas Rangers after nearly four months on the injured list.
  • To clear a 40-man roster spot for Kikuchi, the team designated right-hander Michael Fulmer for assignment.
  • Kikuchi went on the injured list after leaving his April 29 start with left shoulder inflammation, was moved from the 15-day to the 60-day IL, and avoided surgery during his recovery.
  • There is expected short-term rust after the layoff and Kikuchi struggled in his return, allowing five runs in five innings in the Angels’ loss to the Rangers.
  • Kikuchi signed a three-year deal before 2025 and followed a strong 2025 season with a difficult early 2026; his health and form matter for the Angels’ thin rotation and the club’s plans for 2027.
