Andy Donaldson Claims 55km Ord River Swim Record in 11:51

The time awaits ratification by the World Open Water Swimming Association.

Overview

  • Donaldson finished the Lake Argyle to Kununurra dam-to-dam swim in 11 hours and 51 minutes on Tuesday, claiming a world record for the 55 kilometre route.
  • He swam with a support boat and a kayaker rather than a protective cage in a river known for thousands of crocodiles, and he reported no sightings during the attempt.
  • The final kilometres brought severe heat, dehydration and cramping, which he likened to carrying an elephant on his back.
  • Simone Blaser, who first completed the route in 2024 in 16 hours and 13 minutes, supported the effort and swam a short stretch with him.
  • The claimed mark now goes to the World Open Water Swimming Association for formal confirmation.
