Anduril and Kraken to Build Small Naval Drones in U.S. Under New Partnership

The deal points to faster fielding of small sea drones for the Navy’s planned hybrid fleet.

Overview

  • At the Sea-Air-Space expo in Washington on Tuesday, the companies announced a partnership they said will help the Navy shift to a mix of crewed ships and autonomous craft.
  • The collaboration focuses on the K7 SABRE and K5 KRAKEN, small high-speed unmanned surface vessels that will be built and integrated under license in the United States with modular payloads interoperable with U.S. and NATO forces.
  • Anduril said it will integrate payloads and its Lattice autonomy software on Kraken’s mass-producible boats and will produce and support the K5 and K7 for U.S. users.
  • The companies said the K5 and K7 can carry payloads over 1,000 pounds and are designed for quick manufacture, enabling rapid scaling and flexible missions.
  • UK-based Kraken said the move strengthens its U.S. position after a $49 million Special Operations Command award, while no Navy procurement tied to this partnership has been reported.
