Andrew Gillum Arrested in Alabama on Drug Charges

The July traffic stop adds to a string of legal and personal troubles for the former Florida gubernatorial nominee and could bring felony penalties under Alabama law.

Overview

  • Police in Daphne, Alabama, stopped Gillum for erratic driving and arrested him on July 2 on charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia; jail records show he was released on July 3 after posting a combined $6,500 bond.
  • Arrest records obtained by multiple outlets say officers found about three grams of methamphetamine, eight pre-rolled marijuana joints, a bong, three pipes and other paraphernalia during a probable-cause search after an officer spotted a glass pipe on the center console.
