Overview
- Manchester United confirmed on Friday that Andre Onana has joined Trabzonspor on a one-year loan for the 2026/27 season, with the deal subject to international clearance and registration.
- The agreement contains no option or obligation to buy and includes a reported performance-related fee worth up to about €1.3–1.5 million while Trabzonspor will cover the majority of Onana’s wages.
- United decided to sanction the loan after Senne Lammens established himself as the club’s clear first-choice goalkeeper and the club judged Onana’s salary made him unsuitable as a paid backup.
- Onana returned to Turkey off the back of a strong 2025/26 campaign for Trabzonspor, when he made roughly 33–40 appearances, kept six clean sheets and helped the club win the Turkish Cup.
- The loan reduces United’s immediate wage bill and preserves flexibility for a future permanent move or return, with Onana due back at Old Trafford in 2027 with one year remaining on his contract.
