Andhra Pradesh Reports Record 40.109 TMCft Handri–Neeva Transfer in 190 Days

Capacity upgrades enabled the pace, with officials now targeting 50 TMCft by early March.

Overview

  • Irrigation officials say the Handri–Neeva project conveyed 40.109 TMCft to Rayalaseema, surpassing the scheme’s designed capacity for the first time.
  • The current push moved the volume in 190 days, compared with 265 days to move 40 TMCft in 2019–20, according to state figures.
  • Pumping capacity increased from one to six pumps in 2014–19 and was later expanded to 12, a change credited with faster transfers.
  • The HNSS main canal from Malyala to Jeedipalli was widened in roughly 100 days, which officials say sped delivery across the network.
  • Water has reached areas including Kuppam and Madakasira for irrigation and drinking needs, and the Chief Minister has directed filling of regional reservoirs and tanks.
