Andhra Pradesh Pitches Visakhapatnam to AirTrunk With 6 GW Data‑Centre Target

The state seeks hyperscale investment by overhauling business rules; boosting training and education; expanding power and connectivity for AI and data-centre projects.

Overview

  • IT and HRD minister Nara Lokesh met AirTrunk CEO Robin Khuda and formally invited the company to consider a future campus in Visakhapatnam, with AirTrunk saying it will examine the proposals.
  • Lokesh also briefed Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on investments won by Andhra Pradesh and asked for Maharashtra’s best practices in information technology and education.
  • The state is promoting Visakhapatnam as an AI and hyperscale data-centre hub, citing ongoing projects such as the Google AI Hub, Reliance AI Data Centre and AdaniConneX and a target of 6 gigawatts of capacity.
  • Andhra Pradesh is pairing outreach to global operators with speed-of-doing-business reforms, education-sector changes and skilling initiatives designed to supply trained workers and ease project delivery.
  • AirTrunk’s pledge to review proposals is an early, non-binding step that will require corporate due diligence on power, connectivity and land; if projects proceed they could boost local jobs and increase demand for grid and port infrastructure.
