Overview
- At least 78 mandals recorded temperatures above 40°C, with 42.4°C logged in Gudur in Nellore district.
- The state disaster authority said heatwave conditions are likely in 87 of 671 mandals and issued alerts for Alluri Seetharama Raju, Polavaram, Parvathipuram Manyam, Vizianagaram and NTR districts.
- Four mandals met the severe-heatwave mark, which the IMD defines as a day above 40°C and 6.5°C over the local normal.
- The IMD said two upper-air cyclonic circulations and a trough are driving the heat and forecast light showers and thunderstorms through April 5 that could ease it but raise lightning risk.
- Officials urged people to limit sun exposure, wear hats or use umbrellas and cotton clothing, and take extra care of older adults and pregnant or nursing women.
