Andhra Pradesh Airports Report Rapid Traffic and Revenue Growth as Vijayawada Builds Mega Terminal

The surge in passengers and flights is spurring capacity upgrades that aim to keep pace with rising regional and international demand.

Overview

  • Airport directors said on Saturday and Sunday that Vijayawada International Airport’s annual revenue rose from ₹5.98 crore in 2014–15 to ₹87.97 crore in 2025–26 and that passenger traffic climbed roughly 504% to 1,411,325 in the same period.
  • Visakhapatnam Airport reported passenger growth of about 170% from 10.98 lakh in 2014–15 to 29.68 lakh in 2025–26 and a rise in aircraft movements from 11,306 to 21,799 over the period.
  • Vijayawada is constructing a 51,300 sq. m mega integrated terminal at a reported cost of ₹791.59 crore that officials say is on track for completion by December 31, 2026 to expand handling capacity.
  • Both airports have expanded connectivity and passenger services, with Vijayawada adding international links (examples cited include Sharjah and Singapore), the domestic network growing from three to nine cities, and new amenities such as Digi Yatra, free Wi‑Fi and FASTag parking.
  • The airports will hold passenger‑focused Yatri Suvidha Diwas events on June 15 that include health camps and community activities, and officials say the upgrades are likely to boost regional travel, trade and pilgrimage services while testing local transport and staffing capacity.
