American Airlines Uses Electrofuels in First U.S. Commercial Airport Delivery

The delivery shows eSAF can run through existing airport fuel systems and creates a near‑term commercial supply route even as cost and scale remain major barriers.

  • American and Infinium say a batch of electro sustainable aviation fuel (eSAF) made at Infinium’s Pathfinder plant in Corpus Christi was blended with Jet A, tested to ASTM/Jet A standards, and put into Corpus Christi International Airport’s common fuel tanks for allocation to an American Eagle passenger flight.
  • The blended fuel was used on a Corpus Christi–Dallas/Fort Worth passenger service that companies report occurred on Aug. 10, 2026, marking what they call the first delivery and use of non‑biobased eSAF through a U.S. commercial airport fuel system.
  • Infinium produces eSAF from waste CO2 and renewable electricity and says the pathway can cut lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions by more than 90% versus conventional jet fuel, though the flight was not powered entirely by eSAF because the fuel was delivered as a blend in shared tanks.
  • American has a purchase agreement for volumes from Infinium’s larger Project Roadrunner plant, which is under construction and expected to begin eSAF production and deliveries in 2027 at roughly five million plus gallons per year capacity.
  • Industrywide use of SAF remains under 1% of global jet fuel demand because electrofuels are currently more expensive and made at small scale, so wider adoption will depend on larger projects, lower prices, and sustained offtake and financing.
