AMD’s EXPO 1.2 Reaches More AM5 Boards as CUDIMM Support Stalls on Current Ryzen

Full gains from the new CUDIMM memory depend on future Ryzen chips.

Overview

  • EXPO 1.2, AMD’s system for one-click DDR5 memory profiles, is now turning up in vendor BIOS updates for AM5 boards with ASUS first enabling it on X870 and adding beta support on B850.
  • ASUS has signaled plans to extend EXPO 1.2 to older X670 and B650 motherboards through beta BIOS releases that are still in development.
  • MSI engineer Toppc said the new CKD toggle in EXPO 1.2 does not unlock CUDIMM if the CPU’s memory controller lacks that feature.
  • Ryzen 7000, 8000G, and 9000 chips recognize CUDIMM only in a compatibility bypass mode that runs near 6000 MT/s, with reports pointing to full native support on next‑gen Zen 6 CPUs.
  • Beyond CUDIMM, EXPO 1.2 adds an Ultra‑Low Latency mode that can trim DDR5 latency by about 5 to 7 nanoseconds and introduces mixed‑capacity DIMM handling and MRDIMM support.
