AMD Rolls Out EXPO 1.2 as ASUS Enables Support on X870 Boards

The release lays groundwork for higher DDR5 speeds on future Ryzen platforms.

Overview

  • AMD launched EXPO 1.2 on Friday, adding support for new DDR5 module types and mixed-capacity memory setups.
  • ASUS began rolling out beta BIOS version 2301 that exposes EXPO 1.2 features on many X870 and X870E motherboards.
  • The update introduces an Ultra-Low-Latency mode that can cut about 5 to 7 nanoseconds from a typical DDR5-6000 kit.
  • CUDIMM support in current AGESA 1.3.0.0 and 1.3.0.1 firmware is only partial, and modules fall back to standard speeds through CKD bypass on boards without full support.
  • AMD is partnering with Chinese brands RAMXEED, Rui Xuan, and Fujitsu Synaptics to widen EXPO kit supply and help rein in costs for mainstream buyers.
