AMD Pledges AM5 Support Through 2029 and Reissues Cheaper X3D CPUs

The company says the moves are meant to let gamers boost performance without buying new motherboards or costly DDR5 memory.

Overview

  • AMD confirmed on Monday, June 1, 2026, that it will support the AM5 socket with new Ryzen processors through 2029 and announced a set of relaunches and lower-priced X3D models.
  • The Ryzen 7 5800X3D '10th Anniversary Edition' for AM4 returns at $349, ships June 25, keeps the original eight-core Zen 3 specs and is bundled with a Carbice Ice thermal pad.
  • AMD will release the Ryzen 7 7700X3D for AM5 at about $329 in mid-July as a downclocked, lower-cost variant of the 7800X3D that retains the same cache and core count.
  • The Radeon RX 9070 GRE, previously sold mainly in China, is becoming widely available starting June 1 with a $549 price tag for international markets.
  • AMD frames these steps as a response to high DDR5 and component costs that have pushed buyers toward DDR4 and inflated reseller prices, but independent benchmarking and real-world retail pricing are still needed to judge the value of the new SKUs.
