Amber Alert Issued for 6-Year-Old Lanakai Morrison as Search Expands Across B.C. and Northern Territories

Updated suspect and vehicle descriptions have prompted police to ask the public to call 911 rather than approach if they see the child or the vehicle.

Overview

  • Police say Lanakai Morrison was taken from Valhalla Centre on Tuesday, prompting an Amber Alert that was widened to cover all of British Columbia and parts of the Yukon and Northwest Territories.
  • RCMP report the boy was last seen in Fort St. John at about 9:30 a.m. Thursday and say there have been multiple reported sightings in British Columbia.
  • Investigators say Lanakai may be with his mother, 35-year-old Krista Morrison, possibly with 35-year-old Daniel Ludwig and four-year-old Karl Morrison, and have released physical descriptions to aid identification.
  • Officers previously searched for a black 2015 Toyota Tundra that has since been located and now suspect the group is travelling in a red 2006 Ford F-350 with the current licence plate unknown; police advise people not to approach and to call 911 immediately with information.
  • The search covers remote border and northern travel routes that complicate ground checks, so authorities are using emergency alerts and public tips to track movements and protect the child’s safety.
