AMBA Household Without Subsidies Spent AR$192,665 on Utilities and Transport in January

Targeted subsidy retrenchment is shifting more of the real service cost onto consumers.

Overview

  • Transport was the largest outlay, averaging AR$85,438, ahead of electricity (AR$50,611), water (AR$33,733) and natural gas (AR$22,883).
  • The services basket rose 5% from December and 33% year over year, with summer electricity use amplifying bills.
  • Accumulated subsidies fell 39% in 2025, leaving AMBA households covering about 52% of real service costs as the State pays 48%.
  • A new focalized subsidy scheme took effect on January 2 under Decree 943/25, though January schedules still reflected the previous segmentation.
  • IIEP estimates a technical bus fare of AR$1,754, a 38% gap to the regulated value and 184% above the fare in the City of Buenos Aires.
