Amazon, USPS, UPS and FedEx Add Fuel Surcharges as Oil Prices Jump

The charges aim to recoup war-driven fuel spikes that are raising delivery and travel costs.

Overview

  • Amazon will add a 3.5% fuel-and-logistics surcharge for third-party sellers using its fulfillment services starting April 17 in the U.S. and Canada.
  • The Postal Service requested approval for an 8% package surcharge starting April 26 that would run until January 17, 2027.
  • UPS and FedEx continue to adjust index-based fuel add-ons tied to national diesel prices, with UPS updating schedules weekly and FedEx adding per-pound fees on routes to and from parts of the Middle East, South Asia and Africa.
  • Airlines facing a jet fuel surge reported at 95% since the war began have raised checked-bag fees, including recent increases at JetBlue and United.
  • Higher energy costs linked to the Iran conflict are flowing through supply chains to shippers, sellers and travelers, which could mean higher prices, slower or combined deliveries, and fewer discounts.
