Amazon Says No Decision on 007: First Light Sequel and Signals Preference for IO Interactive

The comments suggest Amazon will defer which studio builds a follow-up while retaining legal ownership of the game rights.

  • On Thursday Jeff Gattis, general manager for Amazon Luna and Amazon Game Studios, clarified that no final decision has been made about who will publish or develop a 007: First Light sequel.
  • Gattis confirmed that Amazon technically owns the game rights and that the company will “do what’s right by the game” rather than automatically moving development in-house.
  • He said that, given the commercial and critical success of First Light, IO Interactive is the likely and sensible developer for any follow-up.
  • Gattis allowed that an acquisition of IO Interactive is theoretically possible but said there are no conversations about buying the studio right now.
  • The exchange follows earlier remarks that suggested Amazon or MGM might take over development and matters to fans and developers because IOI has a recent history of ownership changes and strong stewardship of the Bond title.
